ROOTED BY FAITH,
FORGED FOR GENERATIONS.
ABOUT THE ESTATE 98 PROJECT

from the tates
Born in the south, Victoria brings deep agricultural roots from her childhood in Alabama, where farming, hunting, and fishing were more than a way of life, they were survival.
Tyler grew up right here in Carroll, Ohio where stewardship, faith, and family were foundational.
Before having children, we knew we wanted to set ourselves up so that we could provide a life for our children that was different from the norm. We dreamed of a space that would be shared with those connected to. Never was it imagined after having 2 boys that we’d be entrusted with this much land or the opportunity to build something so lasting.
It’s because of that gift that we feel so deeply called to restore what has long been neglected and to create an environment that not only supports our family but thrives for others.
Gideon (born in 2018) has had a heart for wildlife since day one which is inspired by his uncle, Justin Grubb, a National Geographic conservationist and co-founder of Sleeping Bear Wildlife Foundation. Silas (born in 2022) is our bold, mud-loving, creek-clearing adventurer. Whether it's chasing chickens or yanking weeds from the root, he's happiest when his hands are dirty and the job is tough (characteristics that derive from whom he is named after, his great-grandpa Jim Shonk).
Since moving to this land, we’ve taken serious steps toward regeneration. With the guidance of our dear friend, Dave Rawn, a passionate bird conservationist and hobby forester, we’ve begun transforming this property into a thriving space for both people and animals. To start, we’ve halted unauthorized hunting and fishing, have cleared out decades of invasive plant overgrowth, started the process of restoring the pond's ecology, and cleared areas around native species like norwegian spruce and oak so they can breathe again. We’re just getting started here.
We officially launched The Estate 98 Project in 2025 as a registered nonprofit. We're actively tracking livestock care, local produce/egg demands, land improvement efforts, and plan to scale our conservation work even further in 2026.
PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Estate 98 exists to serve through education, conservation, and community. Rooted in faith, we’re growing a space where pollinators thrive, hands get dirty, and people reconnect with the land. From homesteading workshops to a donation-based farmstand, everything we do is about sharing, learning, and stewarding our land well, together.

OUR BOARD MEMBERS
WE DON'T DO IT ALONE.

Our board is made up experienced and educated people who bring unique perspectives to guide The Estate 98. This isn’t just oversight. It’s stewardship, rooted by faith and forged for generations.
